Fake it till you make it...

Fake Museum

Branding

Fake Museum is (quite literally) a fictional concept for a museum dedicated to the collection and preservation of fake historical artifacts, falsified history, and art forgeries.

This passion project was developed for SVA's continuing ed course on brand identities and was inspired a podcast episode from You're Wrong About on fake medieval torture devices (it's fascinating and I highly recommend giving it a listen!).

Rather than shamefully stowing them away (something museums often do with their fakes), displaying and preserving fakes and forgeries should be an important part of the historical process. They encourage us to confront and correct our misconceptions about history, question the cultural contexts under which art and history is falsified, and set a precedent for accurate historical documentation going forward.

I designed a brand that I felt best expressed Fake Museum's ethical mission and nuanced subject matter.
