Curating a collection...
My grandmother's house is a very peculiar, miniature museum. Throughout her life, she has carefully collected very specific items: the entire run of National Geographic magazine, sea glass, wine-corks, hand-written notes, buttons, artwork from when my brother, my cousin and I were younger. It is a tangible, cherished, and thoroughly crafted archive so different from the digital archives the people of my generation curate on social media.
Walking through the Providence house is to be transported to analog times – where the newspaper article is not a link but a cut-out living in a cookie jar, and the music is not downloaded or streamed but performed live in the piano room. Many of the objects in the house reflect the personality of my grandmother: kind, prudent, artistic, passionate and more. Through observing these images, the viewer is, in a sense, meeting my grandmother herself.
